You can't publish it freaking ebook right now. I said, what do you mean? He goes, you your Your comes best-selling author. And he goes, you're going to release an e-book and I said, yeah, you know, I'm just going to put it on myself and he goes, you can't do that. I'm just gonna write down some of the stuff for my podcast and some of the exercises I do. Something I said right now, I'm just gonna release this little ebook and he says, what do you mean ebook? I go, yeah. I can get it done in two weeks or whatever and so I happen to talk to my publisher, a guy named Mark and and he was asking me know, hey, you got to get your next book, ready said, well, you know, I'm alright. And I'll just publish an e-book and it'll be easy. So I just said, you know what? I was going to make a little ebook and I'll put some exercise and I'll put some of my thoughts in there. I started my podcast and people were asking me all the time like what are your workouts? What are you doing? What do you eat? What your sleep routine? What? Your morning routine? Kind of just basic operational systems that, I that I lived in and so I said, you know what, and you know how what a what a pain it is to write a book and go through a publisher. Oh now I got to get in gym clothes, go to the gym, get a trainer Bob up using is there the right equipment? You know, it all that stuff. And so I started doing that then as opposed to like the whole Jim thing so much better because it's easier to get into the discipline as opposed to like. I remember two or three podcast ago when you were on with, with leaf and we were talking about the dichotomy of leadership and I asked you, I think there was even after the pockets, I asked you what you did to work out, and you were just like, just Go in my basement and do a couple pull-ups and do some push-ups.

You have a lot of great exercises on how to get in shape. The challenge right now is to practice the discipline that I need to create freedom.So you know, I'll just mention it in the book. If I look forward ten years I can see the massive impact these small changes could have. I know that I have many frivolous habits that I can change. This is always the case in my past, discipline in the moment gave me something that I would never have had.
That single moment of victory lent me the confidence to try other endeavours. The speech took a year of writing, rewriting, and practising. When I think of all the accomplishments I’ve ever made, they are always the result of a grind. The examples are countless but the theme is simple: If I make small sacrifices today I open up possibilities for tomorrow. I’ll have more time to try other things after I accomplish my list of projects for today. If I am disciplined with my time management I can accomplish more and at a faster pace.
I’ll spend less time in hospitals, be more independent, age slower, and be able to live a normal life for longer. If I am disciplined with my fitness and nutrition now I will remain healthy as I age. This gives me the freedom to retire early, to quit a job I hate, to pursue a passion project that doesn’t pay well, and the freedom to take risks knowing that my finances are stable. If I am financially disciplined now I’ll have more savings later. If I cultivate discipline today, I can reap possibilities later. Everything that I do today affects everything I can do for the rest of my life. When I think about freedom I think about a beach, a stiff drink, and fun times with friends, I don’t think about sacrifice.īut if I broaden my horizons to include my entire life I can start to see the wisdom of Jocko’s quote. This sounds like the opposite of freedom. Discipline means doing the things you don’t want to do when you don’t want to do them.
